Getting there on Subway Line 1

If you work in the Gyeonggi or Incheon manufacturing zones, you don't need a car or an expensive KTX ticket to see the ocean. Wolmido Island (월미도) in Incheon is the easiest and most affordable ocean getaway for a weekend day trip.

Just take Subway Line 1 (Dark Blue Line) all the way to the end of the line: Incheon Station (인천역).

  • From Incheon Station, Chinatown is directly across the street.
  • To get to Wolmido, take Bus #2, #10, or #45 from the bus stop right outside Incheon Station. It takes about 10 minutes.

Even if you don't like scary rides, you must watch people ride the "Disco Pang-Pang". The DJ is famous for making fun of the riders, and crowds gather just to watch. If you are brave, try the Viking ship, which swings so high it feels like you will fall into the ocean.

The Wolmi Sea Train (월미바다열차) is the quieter option — an elevated monorail that loops around the island with the sea on one side. If you live in Incheon, bring your ID: residents pay 8,000 KRW instead of the full fare. Check the day before you go, because it does not run on Mondays.
